According to a case study published in the journal Cureus, topical application of an ointment containing 20% CBD eliminated a skin lesion caused by cancer in a 64-year-old female patient. She also had complete regression of several squamous cell carcinomas, according to biopsies.
The case was followed up by academics from the University of California Riverside School of Medicine. The woman had a history of multiple squamous cell carcinomas mainly on the forearms and back of the hands. She applied an emu oil-based ointment with 20 mg of CBD to the wounds twice a day and after a month the lesions had disappeared leaving only a red mark in the region, examinations identified that the carcinomas had disappeared.
Emu oil is extracted from the fat of a bird of the same name that is native to Australia. It is widely used as a moisturizer for its ease of penetrating deep into the skin, in this case when it was associated with CBD, it was able to remove this type of skin cancer lesion.
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common type of skin cancer. Usually, it appears in superficial regions more exposed to the sun such as arms, legs, face and neck. Treatment for this type of benign tumor can be surgery to remove the tumor or radiation therapy. In the case of the study participant, a less invasive method was used that did not generate adverse effects.

Topical application of CBD via ointments is an effective and non-invasive way to treat various skin conditions and many studies are being conducted to attest to its properties.
